Hey Boss Babes! It's been officially one month since I took the plunge and started my very own business. If you're looking for a heartwarming success story with a side of sass and humor, you've come to the right place. So, grab your coffee and get cozy – we're about to embark on a journey from a dream in Tampa, Florida to my very own thriving business.
Picture this: It was last December, and I was on an annual work strategy trip with my colleagues in sunny Tampa, Florida. I had this audacious dream of launching my own company, and it was right there on my dream board. Yep, I was aiming for the stars, but I figured I'd start with baby steps. As the trip was winding down, I shared a ride to the airport with my girl, Dawn Tucker, and she dropped this bombshell. She had a dream about me that weekend, and it involved me writing a book – hmmm, not sure what that book was supposed to be about but I know I have a book or two in me. I was genuinely touched that someone as awesome as Dawn believed in me and truly saw so much potential in me.
But let's keep it real – I also had this sneaking feeling that I was being "pushed out" of my comfort zone during that trip. Like, the universe was nudging me, telling me that my core values were no longer in sync with the company's plans for 2023. Still, I brushed it off and enjoyed my time with my work besties because, hey, who wants to rain on a parade, right?
Fast forward a few months, and I was knee-deep in planning and soaking up wisdom from incredible people like Katie Shae, Donya Douglas, and my bestie, Paige Freeman. I even started attending events like RESACON to meet more amazing women who inspired me to build a business that helps female entrepreneurs thrive in the world of social media, branding, and marketing. The closer I got to my launch date, the more people noticed, and the more pressure I felt at my day job.
Now, let me pause right there and say this: I'm a loyal soul, sometimes to a fault. So, I soaked in all the heat and pressure, all the while God was giving me those little nudges – you know, the ones you're supposed to listen to but often don't. And, if I'm 100% honest, I didn't. I paid the price for that. Opposition became a daily routine, and my character was under fire during weekly meetings.
Looking back now, I can see the dam breaking, but when you're in the thick of it, it's hard to see. I take full responsibility for not trusting God and for not speaking up when my core values clashed with the company's direction. But finally, I couldn't take it anymore, so I gave my notice. And guess what? The same day, I booked a client who secured a salary almost identical to what I was making in my job. It was like God was there, saying, "SEE, AM I NOT YOUR PROVIDER?" I couldn't help but ask for forgiveness for not trusting earlier.
Leaving that company was no cakewalk, though. An email was sent out trying to tarnish my character, filled with false narratives and misinformation. But guess what? God turned that mess into a blessing, bringing more people to my side. In my first month of self-employment, I've felt a whirlwind of emotions – grief, gratitude, joy, and freedom, but most of all, accomplishment!
I might be a small fish in a small pond right now, but I refuse to limit myself to that. I know great things are coming my way, and this time, I'm going to trust my gut, like my sister has been telling me all along. Most importantly, I'm going to trust God – no more second-guessing. Oh, and that book Dawn Tucker told me to write? Well, who knows, maybe it's time to put pen to paper.
