I just had the most amazing time at the IAHSP Conference, and I couldn't wait to spill the tea with you! Picture this: a room filled with fellow home staging enthusiasts, all wrapped up in the theme "No Place Like Home" inspired by The Wizard of Oz.
The conference, themed around "No Place Like Home" from The Wizard of Oz, took me on a nostalgic journey back to my childhood family reunions at Wylie Park in Aberdeen, South Dakota. There, I discovered a Land of Oz, complete with a white farmhouse and the iconic yellow brick road. This magical place served as the perfect backdrop for me to delve into my own yellow brick road—my journey to where I am today.
In my keynote speech, I opened up about the challenges, experiences, and relationships that have shaped my path. I drew parallels between Dorothy's quest to return to Kansas and our own journeys in the home staging industry. Dorothy's story mirrors our own struggles with fear, self-doubt, and the desire for legitimacy in our field. Yet, just like Dorothy, we have the resilience, courage, and support to overcome these challenges and build the businesses we love.
The underlying message was clear:
Be like Dorothy.
Embrace the journey, face the challenges, and surround yourself with a network of courage, wisdom, and resilience. In the home staging industry, it's easy to feel lost or discouraged, but the conference reminded us that we have everything we need as we walk down our own yellow brick roads.
As I concluded my speech, I shared a gentle reminder that Dorothy's ultimate success wasn't due to the wizard but rather her own journey, friendships, courage, and the realization that she had everything she needed all along. Just like Dorothy, we too have the tools and support to navigate the sometimes challenging landscape of our industry.
My heartfelt wish for you, as you read this, is to continue building the business you love. When faced with the scary moments or encounters with metaphorical wicked witches, remember that you have everything you need to succeed. Look around, and you'll find people like me ready to offer courage, plans, or directions when you need them.
